Work and Career 

The number of problem drinkers among the working population is estimated at 5 to 10% 
Employees with an alcohol problem, but performing 75% of their salary! 
10 - to 30% of serious industrial accidents are related to alcohol. 
60% of business problems arising from alcohol drinkers are not caused by weak but by those who occasionally drink too much. 
EUR 2.2 billion is the estimated total cost of alcohol for business in Belgium. 
Illness or absence from work are 2 to 4 times higher in people with drinking problems. 
Belgium 
In 1990 the Belgians drank on average 9.9 liters of pure alcohol. In 2003 it was 8.8 liters. The total alcohol consumption is falling, but alcohol remains the most widely used stimulant in Belgium. 
Based on two surveys, namely the Health and household budget survey, the researchers conclude that in Belgium between 4.5 and 6.8% were problem drinkers or between 378,000 and 568,000 people. 
In proportion is the highest number of problematic alcohol users aged 55-64 years. 
Research from 2005 shows that seven out of ten pupils in secondary education over the past years drank alcohol. Of all alcoholic beverages, beer is the most popular: more than half of the students drank beer last year, one in five did so at least once a week. 

Netherlands 
In 2003, every Dutch person drank an average of 78.7 liters of beer, 19.6 liters and 5 liters of distilled wine. Total of 8 liters pure alcohol per person per year. 
9% of the Dutch population aged 15 years and older or have problems with their own alcohol.These are more than 1.1 million people! Of these, 325,000 people addicted to alcohol. 
Approximately 13,000 people annually in hospital emergency rooms for accidental injury where alcohol plays a role. 
Research by the Trimbos Institute shows that students more and more young to drink.Examination of the NIGZ shows that one quarter of boys aged between 15 and 25 years excessive drinking. 
For outgoing people drink 57% of boys and 16% of the girls during walking averaged more than 10 glasses of alcohol (binge drinking). Also 33% of the guys are girls and 14% of the regular drunk or tipsy. The alcohol problems of adolescents are mainly formed by the uninhibited by drinking drinking drinking situations and in situations where they really should not drink alcohol (like in traffic). 
In recent years is in weekend nights between 4 and 4.5% of motorists in the Netherlands under the influence of alcohol. As a result, there are annual 250 deaths and 3500 serious injuries. 

International 
In European countries it is the highest alcohol consumption in the world. On average in the EU per capita 10.5 liters of pure alcohol consumed per year. The highest average consumption measured in 2003 in Luxembourg, Hungary and the Czech Republic (or 12.6 to 11.4 - 11.0 liters of pure alcohol per year), the lowest in Sweden and Norway (respectively 4.9 and 4, 4 liters of pure alcohol a year.
